SCOTT FERGUSON, LCSW
I'm a licensed clinical social worker dedicated to helping people navigate life's challenges. I am an interactive therapist, meaning that my sessions with clients are a dialog and I share observations and interpretations to ensure that I develop true empathy and understanding. I believe that therapists embody many roles in the therapeutic process, including that of coach, supporter, and challenger. I enjoy working with clients who are open to exploring feelings and considering new ways to look at issues and I support goal-setting and risk-taking in the spirit of progress.
While my work with clients is rooted in a psychodynamic approach, I also employ elements of structural and solution-focused therapy to balance deep exploration of feelings with practical and proactive solutions to problems in the here and now. In addition to my graduate work at UCLA I trained in relationship therapy at the Ackerman Institute for the Family, completed advanced training in assessing and treating sex issues in therapy and consensual non-monogamy at the Institute for Relational Intimacy, and completed training in the Developmental Model of Couples Therapy at the Couples Institute.
